What's the "most" you would pay over dealer invoice
Ordering the 2.7 loaded minus the bose upgrade. What's the most that I should allow over the dealer invoice. I'm allowing $1200.
I did a search and some people paid only $500 over invoice. Any negotiating tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated

$1200-2000 depending on location and supply and demand...
Bottom line is that you can set whatever price you want...but they don't have to sell it to you for that price...it all depends on who wants it more.
$1500 is usually a reasonable margin for a 2.7T in locations with good supply.
One negotiating method that works well is that you tell the dealer that you don't want to mess around with negotiating, that you are going to go to all the dealers in the area (best if there are 3 or more) and get the "best price" from each of them, and the one that has the lowest price is the one you are buying it from...not that you are trying to be a dick, but you don't wanna screw around dickering...
You don't tell them how many dealers you have already been to or how many you have left to go to...you tell them you will not come back to ask for a lower price, that they have one shot and that is it...you want their bottom line price and you will be back later or the next day if they "won"...
It worked for us when we bought our Subaru, we got a price $500 less than I had originally thought was our best possible price...
This doesn't work when there is only one dealer within 50 miles or so.

Re: What's the "most" you would pay over dealer invoice
I just bought off the dealer lot and got 3% over invoice. I think its easier to use % over invoice rather than a set dollar figure because a $38K car (3.0) vs. a $50K car (4.2) will have a different amount of wiggle room b/w invoice and MSRP. 3-4% is a decent deal. 2% is great. Most of them seem to have MSRP at roughly 10.3% over invoice. I'd never pay more than 4% over.
Good luck.

Ordering places you in a more difficult spot.
The least expensive dealer may mean shoddy follow-up and ordering. It could also mean that they tack on extra charges when the car arrives - since they now have you over a barrel. Better to pick the dealer who strikes you as most honest.
3 to 5% over invoice is fairly common. Depends if dealer can move inventory easily or not. Slow sales means a lower price for you. If they are good at selling cars, they won't need to sell it for bottom dollar.
