wheel offset question for 99 a6 avant C5
Will a set of four OEM 17" x 7.5" Audi alloy wheels with an ET45 offset and 5x112 bolt pattern fit on a 1999 A6 avant quattro?
I am going to purchase them soon off of craigslist and want to make sure that the offset will be fine. I know that the bolt pattern and size is ok.

Short answer: Yes.
longer answer:
Offset for C5s varies from 35-45mm - many were 42mm.
A lower number gives more clearance for brake, but at the cost of more kickback, scrub radius, and lever-arm action on all mounting points. When the total difference is 10mm or less (-.4" or less) its largely academic. But note that in principle there is no good to come of mucking with offset. It is what it is - all else i wrong :-)
Bottom line - you can use those on almost any C5 or B5. They likely came of an S4.

This was the best answer the I have gotten to a question on any forum. Thank you very much!

you are very welcome. One more point - the reason i presume the wheels will fit almost any 5-gen car is that this wheels sounds like the S4 "avus" wheel (6 big, rectangular spokes?). If so, it was made to clear the HP-2 brakes that came on that car. HP-2s are generally the limiting fitment issue.
In general 35mm offset yields the best comparability and works fine. But it gets even murkier - the shape of the spokes - how far they bend in vs out affects what brakes they clear.
enjoy,
