Default wheel and tire fitment

I have an A6 2.8
What would be largest tire on 18" wheels that would fit on this car? Plus two size is 235/40's.However I would like to get a wider tire than that 245's 255's and also 45 or 50's.

Default Fitting anything larger than 235/40R18 will depend heavily on...

- ride height (is the car lowered?)
- wheel width and offset
- brand of tire (some run wider than others)

If you can provide this info, you can probably get a more accurate response from the forum. However, my gut tells me that you're best bet is to stick with the 235/40R18.

Good luck,
Shaun

Default Re: wheel and tire fitment

I have not purchased the rims or tires at this point. I was looking at the RS6 knock offs which are 18" 8.5" wide with a 35 offset. The car has not been lowered.I was also thinking of Kumho's for rubber.

Default Given the stock ride height, you've probably got plenty of room for a larger tire, but...

The width and offset of those wheels might cause a wider tire to stick out beyond the fender lips, which would look strange imo. You could also go with a taller tire, but it will affect your speedometer accuracy and raise the ride height even further than it is stock, which would again be a drawback, imo.

Basically, the answer to your question is yes, you can squeeze a slightly larger tire on those wheels on your car. I guess the question is why, and are the asthetic trade-offs worth it? That's up to you...

Default Don't forget the upper strut assembly, there is a curved arm above...

and the clearance is slim to none, (and slim is leaving for the weekend), so you may not have as much room as you think. Best way to really find out is to see if anyone else has used that configuration, or find a similar setup and try it out before you spend any $$$.

Indeed. Yet another good point (and reason to stick to stock sizes).

Default I have these in silver and they fit my girl well. I found TireRack's fitment program useful.

For 245 or 255 you'd be better off running 9" or 9.5" wide rims

Default Also, Cargraphics has the most aggressive tire/wheel size combos I've seen for Audis.

All info is in their catalog, or you could call them...office is in New Jersey I think.
