Default When must the timing belt be changed on the 2.7T?

It seems that Audi started out in 2001 with the 2.7T indicating it could go 105K miles between timing belt/tensioner changes. Then later it became 70K, according to a manual I was reading. What's the deal? Were they suddenly replacing engines left and right under warranty and decided to use caution? What is the generally accepted mileage for timing belt/water pump replacement? Thanks

I've been using 75k as an interval.

i replaced mine about 2 years ago at around 60,000 miles (i have a 2000) i believe. wasn't so much the mileage but the age, my mechanic said the waterpump was going, which is usually what goes first.

If you look under the hood on the passenger side, there is probably a red
sticker that indicates the toothed belt should be replaced every 75K miles.
The belt more than likely will be fine but the rollers, tensioners, and water pump probably won't. Not worth the risk IMO.

long story. It was 105. Many think to put it outside the intellichoice cost numbers. Then it went to 60k in bentley ( paper). Most seem to think the right number falls in between - maybe 75k.

Your mechanic is right - its nto the belt, btu the water pump or a rotating piece like an idler that typically fails, and takes the belt, and your valvtrain, with it.

Depends on how much of a risk taker you are. IMHO, 60-75k seems a little low. I changed my original at 94.5k and am at 158k. Next change projected for around 175-180k.

I've been wondering about this myself lately. I have a low mileage 2003, it will be 7 years old in April. It has almost 54,000 miles on it (I've had it for 3 years and do about 7K miles/year). How long do you think I can go without the timing belt service (assuming I don't hit 75K miles anytime soon)?
