then should I just recode it to '00022', which allows me to go to redline in 1st, instead of '00032', which has that feature, along with the sport mode feature?

there is definitely a difference in shift points in D and S even with the 00032 code. The S seems to hold gears longer before shifting, and will seldom go into overdrive on the highway.
One plus (at least it works on my car) is that the tiptronic buttons on my steering wheel are able to shift even if I am in D or S. I do NOT have to shift the lever into Tiptronic mode to activate those buttons. After 8-10 seconds on no active shifting with the buttons, it reverts back to D or S.
Not positive if that works the same way on the 2002 2.7T Tiptronic as well.
