When will Audi develop new engines?
#2
Rumor has it that next gen A6 will offer 3.7 liter V8, but it's not necessarily...
...a new engine. Audi offered a 3.7 V8 on the '97 A8 (FWD only). I haven't heard if the rumored '05 3.7 is the same engine or not.

The 3.0 is only one year old, and it definitely qualifies as new.
The 1.8 is several years old, as is the 4.2. Neither engine, however, is by any definition obsolete. Who else (other than Ferrari) is offering 5-valve engines?

Re: When will Audi develop new engines?
All of their new engines are european production. They have been doing lots of work in both Spark Ignited Direct Injection and high speed diesel (4L Tdi). Too bad none of those engines will ever come here. I'd love a diesel V8 quattro.

Yes, I know, there are other Audis on VW platforms, but...
... the connection between the TT and Beetle is much tighter. Passat shared engines with the A4/A6, but also kept some distinct engine options.
3.2L is a transverse engine setup, in the pure FWD tradition. TT is the only Audi that has a transverse engine configuration.
