drive and the handling is much more to my liking than the "standard" Audi handling. Aesthetically, I prefer the Audi look, and the fit and finish of the Audi interiors is leagues beyond what the BMW offers.

The questionable styling and even more questionable reliability of late has taken some of the pressure off Mercedes and Audi to excell even more than they have. The one bright light is that BMW's marketing dept is simply incredible and has been consistantly so for a long time. Another light is that BMW has hired another 300 electrical engineers to help cope with problems already existing, and to try and head off problems with future models.
What galls me the most is the image that comes with driving a BMW. It's an image not created by the marketing dept, but rather by some of the more colourful and extroverted owners. It's not something you can uncheck on the options list. You have to live with a label you may not want. Personally I don't want to spend (a lot of) my hard earned money to be labeled in a way I don't admire.
