Default Who is running what summer tires (S6), 18x8" wheel, not finding the load rating needed.

Have been searching and getting more and more frustrated as I check specs on tires. S6 02, avus 18" 8" wide, so ideal is 235/40/18 but am NOT finding the 94 load rating, so if I go up to 245/40/18 which should fit, I get up to a 93 load rating, is that reasonable?
A/S doesn't get much better than that anyway.
Thanks

Default the stock tire is a 255/40-17 the correct +1 would be a 255/35-18 to keep the Outside

tire dimension the same. Many run the 255/40-18 as that is what came on the RS6 and since it is only a 4% difference it doesn't change things that much and gives you a little bit more sidewall to protect the wheel. I have the 40-18's on but will install the 35 series when they wear out.

I just went with 255/40-18's, but I am going with 18x8.5" rims.

Default What? 235/40 way, way too small...

Why on Earth would you want to run a tire so much smaller than OE?

The OE tire was a 255/40-17. You can run an XL 255/35-18 or a SL 255/40-18. You can probably run SL 255/35s but they'll have a lower load rating than the OE tires.

I like some sidewall height, myself.

The S6 I just bought has 245/40-18s on it, which doesn't make much sense as (at least in Michelin sizing) they're the same rolling radius (revs/mi) as a 255/40-18 anyway.

It's going to get a new set of 255/40-18s soon but I haven't decided whether I'm going to put all-season tires on there now (there's only two options - the ContiExtremeContacts which I have no experience with, and the Pilot Sport AS which I don't much like) or put on summer tires (Goodyear GS-D3s) and pick up a set of the smallest, cheapest wheels I can find for winter tires (215/60-16?) later.

Will any 16x7 wheels clear the HP2 brakes?

Default Please do a search>multiple posts regarding this size>this wheel width is 8", not 8 1/2"

so 255 is too wide for this WHEEL,
Problem #2 is wt load> "94...anything lower than that is unacceptable" quote from this forum,

Default I run 235/40's on 18 x 8.5 wheels no problem

Those are 1.1% smaller than my stock tires IIRC. Of course, I have a 4.2 not an S6.

You need 8.5-9" rims for 255. 245 is widest for 8".

...but how does Audi justify 255/40/17 on the stock (17x8) 4.2 wheels???

Default FYI 235/40/18 Toyo T1-R is 95 load rating... that's what I run on my A4. >>

the 255/35/18 is 94 load rating.
and the 255/40/18 is 99 load rating.

You can get them from Edgeracing.com for great prices.
