I'm running 265 width tires on 8.5" rims, and the fitment is fine, doesn't have the "euro" look tho.

Default Depends on the sidewall height and what you're after
Taller sidewall will tolerate a narrower rim.

Narrower rim is also better for ride quality.

When in doubt go over to the Tire Rack site and look up the allowable rim widths for the tires you want to use.

IIRC the OE size for the 4.2 was 255/40-17 just like the S6, so you've now got a longer, narrower contact patch.

Default running 255/35/18 on OEM RS6 nine spoke 8.5"wide
that was the Factory tire size for the RS6

Default Didn't realize mine were only 8", went by what 1010tires says.....

Sidewall is too tall, should be 35.
