Why A6 2.7 T and not A6 3.0???
I'm in the market for a new car and i'm looking at the A6 3.0 i want to know if the extra power of the turbo car is needed. I'm not a speed deamon anymore so i think the 3 liter engine would be just fine but i see alot of people with the 2.7 turbo. i just want to make the right decision when i buy my next new car.

Only way to tell is to drive both a bit.
Most AW posters are performance enthusiasts, so the 3.0 isn't held in great favor. The 2.7T allows for all kinds of mods also. But hey, wouldn't you really rather have the 460hp RS6?

Sport Suspension Option not available for 3.0
If you are not as you say "a speed demon anymore", but handling is still important to you, you will definately want the available sport package that is an option from Audi only for the 2.7T (and the 4.2L). It would include stiffer shocks, stiffer springs, front and rear sport anti-swaybars, performance tires and 17" wheels, and bolstered sport seats. Suspension upgrades and wheels, tires and seats are available in the aftermarket but you will spend about 3x as much doing this aftermarket than just picking up the option from Audi when buying 2.7T.
Also, information I have seen shows only automatic transmission available for 3.0, if that is important to you.
As far as torque, the 3.0 has 37 foot pounds less torque, if you are getting quattro, I think the extra power of the 2.7T would be appreciated.
If you are going front track and handling is not that important to you, the 3.0 with the CVT is probably a nice package, but I have never driven it.

A friend test drove an A4 3.0 w/ 6sp, and he reports........(more)
....that he really likes the engine, and that it has a substantial torque in low and mid ranges. He currently has the big Saab and he feels the 3.0 is competitive with that engine, and the car is far superior in every other respect. It might be a little short with the extra weight in the A6, but that won't matter to those not looking for max performance.

In MY2000 Audi offered the 2.8 A6Q with a 5-speed manual tranny (after numerous requests)...
they became "lot queens" as those who wanted a manual tranny went for the 2.7T with it's 6-speed. I wanted to drive the 2.8/5-speed, but never could find one to try. Since only about 15% or less of 2.7T buyers (nationally) opt for the manual it doesn't bode well for Audi offering a manual tranny for the non-turbo A6s. The 3.0 in a 6-speed A4Q...now that sounds interesting!
