suvs have tow hitch receivers) is much less than owning one. If we didn't have the house to work on, we would just rent like we have in the past.
A lot of people at the VW Audi dealer would trade in their large SUV, saying they rarely used the towing ability or full passenger capacity. Insurance can be rather high on some too.

I have a tahoe, dodge power wagon, and 2500HD. All good for different things, esp when you need to haul big things around or just to do a little off-roading.

A horse hair "bus brush." Long handle, the water flows through, and it removes and flushes the grime without soap or paint damage.
I use it on the Audi, too.

trailer quite often. It's true that some Hertz PU's are relatively new, but their trailers are usually total POS's. You're lucky if the lights work much less a good trailer brake setup. I tow my heavy 2 axle trailer with an SUV that tows very well. The wiring and brakes/tires all working well. Renting such a setup, if possible, would use valuable hours of the day which I don't have to spare. Projects are house, vineyard, and car transport. 1 SUV + trailer = less insurance than PU + trailer + another car.

We also have Hertz #1 club, and it's well worth signing up if you can. Call ahead and make a reservation. Get someone to drop you off, look at the board to find the stall where your vehicle is parked, hop into your vehicle, show your ID at the gate, and you're gone! Much faster than the counter.
You're right, if you tow a lot, it makes sense to have your own. But in the case of say my BIL, he doesn't have room to park it, let alone a trailer, and only uses it maybe 6 times a year max.
