Why does my MANUAL transmission A6 2.7T have SAIP?

Can anyone explain why my 2003 A6 2.7T with a manual transmission has a SAIP system?? Everything I have read, both on here and in the Bentley manual, say the secondary air injection systems were only installed on automatic transmission cars. But alas, my car has one and of course it is throwing the insufficient air flow bank 1 & 2 codes. It did the nice jet start up sound for about 6 months before the pump died. While I was doing research to figure out how to fix it, everything I read said the car shouldn't have one. Anyone have an explanation for this? Did some cars with a MT get the SAIP system for some reason, or is my car an anomaly?

I don't see what difference the transmission would make - SAIC is part of the emissions control system, and only operates when the car is warming up (so again, the trans would matter why?)
Having said that, the ELSA manual says for my 01 2.7 6spd manual that it has one (and it does - I checked). Searching for 2.7t MY 2002 says the same, but MY 2003 doesn't show a manual available... Is it possible yours was a transition model between 02 and 03?

I don't see what the difference would be either. The odd thing was when I researched it I found several posts on here as well as a statement in my Bentley manual saying the SAIP system was not installed on 2.7T MT cars. It is possible it is a model year difference. I think I am just going to ask the dealership what the truth is. In the meantime i will buy the Bosch pump and replace it.
