Default A4 over X-Type

I was considering these 2 autos on a short list about 8 months ago, even before I found the AudiWorld website. The A4 was, overall, a much nicer car. Something about the interior of the X-Type felt inferior to that of the A4. The carpeting was nicer. The leather was nicer. The plastics felt nicer. Generally, all the amenities were nicer.

I was in my car stereo installer's shop after I got the chance to compare the 2 and there was a new X-Type having a deck, speakers and a sub installed. I spoke with the guys who worked on the car and they informed me that, after removing door panels and the dash and getting a look below the surface, it wasn't a very well built nor well put together car. "It's obvious that it's a Ford" was their general comment.

It helped support my decision to go with the A4. Of course, since then, I've decided I want an A6 instead!

Default How about BMW 330i ?

Now before I get flamed, that is what my wife wanted. She thinks it looks sexy Kind of hard to argue with that, plus it's just a great car. I would take the A4 3.0 or a 330i over the X-type any day.

Semper Fi...

Default For me it would be A4 or 330i unless you are over 40

in that case the Bimmer might be a bit boyish.

Default Do you want to pay for a hood ornament?

IMHO, that's pretty much what you pay for with that car. It's the same platform as the European Ford Mondeo economy car. Sort of like if the A4 was based on the Jetta platform, but a Jetta built by Ford.
And I think the A4 exudes style (esp. in Dolphin), while the X-type looks like a Ford.

Default But the look still "works" on the A4. The Jag look on the X is goofy.

I like the Jag shape, but when it gets to the X, it looks cartoon-like and out of proportion. Same thing with the MB C class. You can't just take your flagship and shrink it.

Default How is a 330i worth 9k over a 325i?

I'm trying to figure this out as I may soon lease a 325...it just seems for the few extra horses, that $9k is a lot...

After driving both and previously deciding on the A4 it's not even a contest. The A4 has much better build quality and I think you will find the resale much better as well. By the way I will also say that after being rear ended at 50+ by an Expedition the audi performed exceptionally well. Both my son in the back(4yrs old) and myself walked away without a scratch and unfortunately didn't even damage my golf clubs in the trunk. Car was totaled by it did its job.

Default The 325i felt anemic to me...

I was thinking about buying a 325xi as a "winter" car until I got to drive a straight 325i. While my eyes were telling me that I was sitting in a BMW and driving one, my other senses felt as though something was out of whack. Dare I say, it felt very "ricey". I need high RPMs to extract decent amounts of HP and torque. Even then, I thought that the experience was "ho hum" at best.

I reluctantly drove a 330i afterward, and the experience was completely different. I got that "Oh yeah!" feeling back.

Ultimately, I chose to stay away from the 3-series since I didn't think that the 330i was worth $40K, especially as a third car. Instead of the 325i, I would much rather prefer a WRX and put the money towards something else.

Default Stick or auto? Because the stick was quite "peppy" to me...

no problem getting it going fast...and quickly.
