In Germany the first DUI gets you 1 year no license. The second DUI you lose it for life.

Default The police did not mention alcohol in the contributing factors to the crash.

the driver who was drinking was stopped.

The only way alcohol could be to blame would be if the car the drunk was driving took the corner while exceeding the speed limit, then the SUV tried the same manuever, slid off the road and flipped.

If the parents had her driving a ford focus, she would be alive right now. Alcohol or not. Focus the blame where the blame belongs, inexperinced drivers should not drive SUV's. There should be a whole separate validation on a drivers license for SUV drivers. SUV's are too different from cars to allow people with only car operating skills to operate both.

That said, the penalties for drinking and driving are too lax. In addition to longer revocation periods, I would pass a law that says if you ever get a DUI, you can NEVER buy a car over 3000 lbs agian.

We need the same here. Plus tougher penalties for driving after revocation.

Default support stats

Rollover Injuries ratio
cars: 99,000 / 131,072,466 = 0.000755307373
SUVs: 65,000 / 27,071,042 = 0.0024010897

SUVs are 3.17 times more likely to roll than cars.

rollover death ratio:
cars: 4,554 / 131,072,466 = 0.0000347441392
SUVs: 2,701 / 27,071,042 = 0.0000997745118
though here, SUV rollover deaths are only 2.87 times more likely.

61% of SUv deaths were from rolls, compared to 23% for cars.

It doesn't get much tougher than this. Hopefully it will serve as a lesson to others.

Default Let's agree on one thing. Vehicles are not designed to absorb impacts at speed on the roof, and....

... an old-school SUV is much more likely to put you in a position to be absorbing impacts with your roof. Physics suck, but taller means tippier (absent technology to control it as in the more modern SUVs). Tippier means the top ends up being the side, front or bottom.

I think this girl would have had a better shot at surviving in an Accord or Camry. New driver, alcohol and a Ford Explorer. Bad combination.

I would agree with moving the driving age to 18. HUGE maturity difference.
