Will any remote key work, or do I need to match serial numbers...(I already S'dTFA)
I lost one remote key to my '00 A6 Avant over the weekend and the dealer wants a RIDICULOUS $175 for a replacement.
So, I'm hunting around e-Bay and finding lots of suitable-looking replacements (and warnings about substandard materials used in replacement blades)...but I can't seem to find an answer to whether I need to worry about matching the serial numbers inside the remote?
Do I need to be concerned with buying any particular remote...or can I buy an identical-looking 3-button A4 remote (with a blank blade)...
Any info would be appreciated...

Must match the FCC ID number EXACTLY; then you do a remote adaptation. Remotes that look identical
will not work if the ID or serial numbers don't match up. I got one for my Acura on ebay for like $25, obviously getting hard key cut is additional.
