Will Audi CPO a car if it's still under factory warranty, but not purchased at an Audi dealer?

One dealer said yes, for a fee and one other said no because it wasn't purchased from an Audi dealer but rather from an independent dealer.
Curious if anyone has had their car CPO'd but didn't buy it from the Audi dealer??
TIA!

Then they could CPO the car and resell it to me (at a mark up of course).
They quoted me $1250 to CPO the car and another $700 for unspecified "repairs". Since the car is under warranty, and they have done all of the work, what "repairs"?
Sorry for the rant.

My 2000 A4 1.8t was my leasee car...Audi dealer negotiated a better deal on lease buy back from AOA than I could on residual because AOA would not negotiate price with me directly. I had dealer buy car at 5800.00 below my buy back price and they passed the car back to me plus the 900.00 to CPO. I took the deal and spent the money to stage III the car.
Second car I found (2001 A6 4.2 sport) from private party for about 10,000.00 under what I could buy from dealer. Dealer bought the car from private party and then I bought from them for price plus 1100.00 for CPO and gave them 500.00 for their trouble. I ended up with the car I wanted and warrantied for a LOT less than I could buy from any audi dealer.

After all, that's the crux of the situation, if you're asking if your car could still be CPO'd in the future. And if you own a CPO car, it's transferrable - which would indicate that it's not a consideration.
But you're right, technically CPO is a program/warranty for cars SOLD by Audi dealers. So in order to do that, they would have to hold title. People have sold their cars back to the dealer, and bought them back for the certification costs plus a markup. Of course, you're looking at paying sales tax and registration again -- not a great option on a 60k car.
That was then. Now that Audi is offering their own extended warranty, Pure Protection, there is less reason to do this. Bear in mind that it's a rebranded policy, though -- actually administered by a 3rd party. It's considerably more expensive than CPO costs, but maybe not crazily so after you consider the hassles and sales tax issue.
I believe in comes in different coverage levels, and pricing varies from dealer to dealer. Not all of them even offer it.
You have at least a couple of years left of original warranty. I don't know if Pure Protection is additive to the original warranty, like CPO is. Wouldn't make sense to you if they overlap.
Let us know what you find out and decide.
