Default Will this be serious competition for the A6?

Fresh alloy says the new Maxima will have 270hp and optional (possibly standard) AWD. Nissan is going up market and they mention the A6 as one of the targets. I wonder if in the eyes of the general market, what Nissan lacks in sophistication it will make up in reliability. They do seem to be on a roll.

http://www.freshalloy.com/site/cars/nissan/2004/maxima/preview/home.shtml</a

Default Not if they can't improve fit and finish. Lots of little glitches with the new cars too.

A few of the A4 folks have tried/owned the 350Z, and find those Japanese ponies a tad smaller than the German ones;-)

Default This (East Asian horsepower < European horsepower) seems to be a standing issue...

...that I've been hearing about for a long time. Is this a power-curve thing(flatter power vs. rpm in Europe)? Different methods of measuring? Or what?

But there's no doubt that German horses seem stronger -- Percherons, maybe?

Default Usually the Germans seem to like square or undersquare engines.

The Japanese like oversquare engines.

Those long stroke German engines produce more torque and at lower rpms, but don't like to rev as much. Of course there are many factors as to why this situation exists, such as valve size inertia, etc.

Very good article - look 1/3 of the page down.

Wonderful explanation! Thank you! (So dishonesty isn't an issue -- which is good.)

Default Nope, just different engineering styles.

The Germans figure you don't plan to visit 6000rpms in every gear;-)

Uglier then the 745? I think that it may be a contender.

Yeah but the scary part is that the 745 seems to be highly successful

Default I will say that car does not any better than an A6, in fact kinda bad. I still like the 745 looks

Saw one with big ol tires and tint, darker color, looked very mean.
