so we can all agree that the cup holder in the center console is pretty much worthless, right? mine refused to stay down, and i ended up breaking it trying to remove it to gain access to the mirror switch i needed to replace. now i have a hole in my center console.

i think this space could be better utilized as a slot for an ipod, phone, whatever. anything would be more useful than that awful cupholder. i'm wondering what, if anything, anyone has put in place of their center console cupholder, and how you did it. i was thinking of sewing a leather pocket and somehow affixing it in the slot. it's also my understanding that later model allroads had a little change dish (or whatever you want to call it)...would this part just slip into the open slot of my 2000 A6? anyone have one they don't need for whatever reason? what about a blanking plate? really, the cupholder is useless, and if i can't figure out another suitable use for the hole that still looks okay, i'd rather just cover the hole with a blanking plate.
