"Replace Brake Pads" message on 2007 S6 with 14K miles?

Almost all dealers "recommend" new rotors with pads
Personally, I think that's ludicrous. I typically change rotors about every other pad change on my Porsche and BMW (haven't done the Audi yet), and that's what most owners do as well. I typically have plenty of rotor thickness left, even with a generous margin, after the second set of pads. On the Porsche, I often change pads before a track weekend, and at 38K miles, I'm still on the first set of rotors. Many people get 60K or more out of rotors. S6s are heavy though, so wear may be somewhat faster.
The dealers always have some excuse why they recommend rotors, but it's EXTREMELY unlikely that you need them at 14K, even if you do need new pads.

Re: in 05 the maintenance plans included brakes... for 06+ models they do not :(
I've heard some have been able to get new rotors out of the 05 maint plan. I'd like to find out if there's anything I can do to get them to replace whatever is possible before my warranty runs out in Feb. Other experiences?

Re: Almost all dealers "recommend" new rotors with pads
If this is the case and you have an 05, would it be reasonable to get new rotors at 4 yrs/38k on Audi?

probably similar to my wifeys subie... determine the thickness of rotors and wear of pads
there is usually a spec they go by, below a certain point replace above repair/shave. my wifeys subie was within the year/mileage of her maintenance plan however her rotors were not worn down enough so they shaved them to get rid of thumping/warping
