Default I had a GTI for a day, and obviously own the C6 (multitronic though)

I actually equated the "S" for the A6 with the regular "D" of the GTI. The "S" in the GTI was way too aggressive for me.

It's really the market that the cars are pitched at.

Default I slip my car into "S" whenever I anticipate needing a little "OOMPH", then put it back into D...

after the need is over. It does eat up gas, but is really fun. I find the tiptronic distracts me unless I use it often enough to remember to shift...

Default DSG "S" mode is great for the track....

While doing HPDE at VIR, I just left it in "S" mode. My instructor who drove an 02 A6 tried to get me to shift it, but soon found out it was way different than his Tip tranny. I was never in the wrong gear, and could really concentrate on car placement and getting smooth. The only time I wanted to shift was on the back straight if was cooling it to let some cars by so I'd have a clean shoy at the downhill twisties.
