so here in US we have bright yellow light "passenger airbag off" right in the middle of the console. This annoys me. I do not know what to do about it. Am I suppose to provide passengers with a pillow or something.
In my old A6 I dealt with the problem by covering the message with a piece of electric tape. Worked like a charm for 11 years.
With my new A6 I decided to yank the indicator completely and replace it with something more useful like a phone holder. After disconnecting the indicator, the red "AirBag" light came up. I read the error codes and found that the Audi computer validates that the yellow light is working and throws an error code if it is not connected. Sound a bit over-engineered since it requires a dedicated circuit and error code message.
A follow-up question: the red indicator tells me that the yellow indicator does not work. What happens if the red indicator does not work? Would some other light come up telling me about it?
More practical question: can I plug a resistor into the yellow light circuit? I guess 200-500 Om should do it.
apologies, I know that this subject is not as important as the wheel upgrades and such, but still, I had to get it out of my system.

What is required to do it "right'" would be to short out the sensor that tells the car that there is someone in the passenger seat.

Why not just pull the bulb or LED (whatever it is) and just paint it black, then put it all back together, or paint the backside of the letters black?

My Audi has the same passenger airbag symbol lit. I read that it could be a shorted wire to the air bag sensor.
I haven't looked at mine yet, maybe when I take the bumper off to replace the internal headllght wiring.
