12V cigarette outlets in front and back don't work, in trunk is fine, fuse OK

Hi,
we have a 2001 A6 Avant. A few weeks ago my wife told me the GPS stopped working. Blown fuse. Replaced. I confirmed things worked. Now I just found out that things immediately broke again. What I found:
- no 12V in front nor back
- fuse OK (reseated just in case, checked with DVM)
- 12V in trunk outlet
- GPS works in my car and in trunk
So it appears there's a fusible link in the circuit somewhere. The owner manual doesn't say there is one and I don't have the tech manual for the A6.
I searched the archives but I didn't find this situation. If someone has any tips I'd appreciate it. In the meantime I'll put together a 12V extension cord so at least my wife has her GPS running if needed.
Thanks!
Sander
