Default 2005 A6 4.2 vs 2009 A4 2.0 TFSI

Guys, hello!
Can someone give me advice what to do! I have 2005 A6 4,2. But there is one good oportunity to sell it and for its money to buy newer A4 2009 year with 2.0 TFSI engine (35 000 miles)
I know, that interior and engine sound in A6 is better. But on other hand - as i heard 2.0 TFSI is aprox. similar in performance nubers with A6 4.2, but it handles much better. Because as we know, A6 is very heavy car.
I have driven 2003 A4 1.8T and it was nice car. I think that 2009 A4 should be alot better.
Of course, i will make any decisions after i will have driven this A4.
Still thinking, that i will stay with A6, but what can you say about it?

I too have a 05 4.2 n have debated a b8. Heres my 2 cents. They r fun to drive and compared to a6 they feel more nimble and easier too throw around. Less low end torque so I would expect u to miss the 4.2 at times. The size will be a bit smaller the interior styling is slightly different. The a6 is super thought out w driver focus. U won't miss the a6 seats. The a6 gives me a feel of elevate luxury and the a4 (interior especially) at times makes me feel like it's a bit immature ...not toyish but not at the same level... I don't know maybe the plastic/rubber. To sum it up ...I'm somewhat undecided so I'll wait a yr or 2 and see how I like the b8 s4 then.

B8 S4 would be my dream, but too expensive
There is also one BMW 335 coupe 2007 for this price. (80 000 miles on it). But not sure what to do.

The biggest problem is - i know all about my car, but buying another used is dangerous thing. There can be hidden problems with car.

The nice part is that you could chip the A4 and then it would be about equal power to weight ratio with the A6 and we all know turbos are more fun

I used to have a 2006 A6 3.2, have driven 2008 A6 4.2 and now own a 2009 A6 3.0T. I also have driven 2009 A4 2.0T and 2011 Q5 2.0T as loaners.

The 2.0T engine is only rated as 211 HP. The torque is close to 250 lbs/ft but it would be more than a stretch to compare 2.0T performance to your 4.2. The 4.2 has been claimed as one of the best V8s ever made. I'd say the 3.0T engine is more comparable to 4.2.

The A4 2.0T I had as a loaner definitely had a turbo lag. The engine's power didn't feel quite adequate for the car. However, the 2011 Q5 (which is bigger and heavier) felt more powerful with little to no turbo lag. I think the big difference between these two cars is that Q5 comes with a new 8-sp transmission. Having that lower 1st gear definitely helps move this SUV quickly and the turbo spools up almost instantaneously. If I didn't know they had the same engine, I'd of have sworn the Q5 had a bigger engine.

IMHO, the strongest reason to trade your 4.2 for a 2.0T is for mpg. Our C6, although one generation behind now, still has far superior interior than the new A4. Let us know what conclusion you come to after the test drive.

All depends on what you want. I've got a wife an 2 kids - I love the room of the A6. I've had the A4 as a loaner a couple of times. It's nice, but it's not an A6 in terms of space and luxury.

Thanks mate. Now i have no questions after your reply. Wont change A6 for A4. I agree for your all text. I can also agree about interior quality. I like interior in my A6 (fully loaded) more, than A4 or Q5 interiors.
