2005 a6 headlamp issue
Hey all first time poster. I purchased a used 05 audi a6 3.2l quattro and absolutely love it. when i purchased the car their was message on the dash saying the adaptive headlights were faulty. im honestly not to concerned about that, and will look into that in the future. now the problem i have a question about is that on both headlamps the inner headlights don't work. the outer headlights work fine. they light up no problem and when i switch to high beams they brighten up. but i'm not sure why the inner ones on either headlights don't. i've looked around and have not seen this being discussed. i find it hard to believe that the bulbs are the issue since its the same one on both assemblies. is there a fuse or relay i should look for, or is it that they are faulty and that is what is also causing the adaptive headlight issue. any and all help would be appreciated. i can take it back to the dealer later next week when i have time, but if i could fix it myself that would be much easier.

The inner lights are the DRL's. They are only on during the day if you set the DRL option in the car menu. They turn off when the headlights are on.

What SchwarzS6 said.
To add, the faulty adaptive headlights could be just motor for the adaptive headlights. I believe it cost under $80 or even less for the part.
You'll have to remove the whole headlamp unit to switch it out.
You'll have to remove the front bumper(about 16 screws to remove)(first time about 45mins).
I say do it yourself, but if your not handing take it to the dealer or indie shop about $425.

Wow didn't even notice they were driving lights. My truck does it differently. I do notice that when I turn the car on at night the headlamps adjust up and down but not left and right. Still a motor issue possibly?

The left right is hard to see becaused it only happens when the car is moving a greater than 6 mph. There is a way to set this to Dealer mode so they will move left-right while standing still until the car is restarted. Not sure if this can be done from the car menu or if you need a VAG-COM. The other way to see it is to drive along at 10-20mph and wiggle the steering wheel back and forth.

I heard that you cann't replace or work on the inner motors. I did notice that they sell em and this has always been a confusion to me. Have you done the swap out?
