Get the car to a good indy mechanic. Where are you located? Folks here might be able to get you in contact with someone who knows there stuff.
Good luck

Most likely is the access start authorization module problem. To fix it, you need to replace the module. It is part of steering column. Most of the times the steering wheel is locked, insert the key into the key slot won't turn on any thing. The instrument panel cluster may have some display on right after you open driver door. You need to bring it to Audi authorized dealer and bring all car keys (master, spare, ) with you. Make sure asking your repair dealer to modify the starter feed back circuit (tell them to check TSB about the circuit modification procedure)

If your independent Audi-certified mechanic finds that the steering column needs to be replaced, you can have him do that (to save on labor costs). However, as mentioned above, you will still have to tow the car once again to the dealer to have them reprogram the keys with the new control module that comes with the steering column.
P.S. that audi guy that came over was just a basic mechanic. he doesn't know audis.

so can you give me an update... so f-in pissed right now... came back to a dead vehicle at the airport after being stuck away for an extra two days in this snow storm/frigid wave... tried everything to start... changed battery even.... lights go on, flashers work, radio works, CD works, internal lights work... only lights on dash that are on are the red date and time (left of steering wheel) and red mileage light (to right of steering wheel). Shifter won't move out of park. Have to get it towed to the dealership out of the parking garage. Freaking out.

Sounds similar to the problem everyone else here had with the steering column. However, I don't remember even trying to use my radio, internal lights, etc so I can't confirm.
Since those still work, you could hope that it is just the starter but plan for the worst.
