I have great luck with Valvoline Maxlife atf, which not surprisingly covers Audi/VW Mercedes BMW, Ford Mercon sp, DexVI. Iv had some customers who have 150k+ on the trans, finally start having harsh shifts or juddering, and changing the fluid makes them work great again. ZF (Who manufactures the transmission) says it needs changed 40-60k miles depending on how hard you are on it. Still yet to ever see one fail after a fluid change. Cant even count how many iv done. Just smooth shifts.

Scheduling a transmission filter / fluid change with Aamco, using Ford Mercon SP. $99 plus the price of the filter/gasket. I'll report the results next week some time!

Any update on the fluid change? My car 05 A6 3.2 just started doing a rough shift (jerk type) on gears 3rd to 4th. Only does one time on my 1st take off in the morning. Did it 2 days in a row. I work 8 to 10 hours and car sits for that long and does not do it. Any idea's? I Have 102k on it now. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is it fronttrak(CVT) or Quattro?
Worst you'll need a rebuilt.
Maybe a tcu replacement.
Maybe a software update and fluid change.
Maybe low on fluid.
But cross out low fluid.

I used Redline (SAE 75W-90 API GL-5) for my front & rear differential and the middle (transfer case).
As for tranny fluid, changed mine out with ZF lifeguard 8 and although the car takes a 9 liter capacity only 5 can actually be changed when you drop the tranny pan.
I'd recommend getting the ZF from here: http://www.thectsc.com/index.php?p=home

Couldn't agree more to this statement 'Get it checked before it becomes a bigger problem'. However, if you are already experiencing slipping, the damage may have already been done. Good luck

Thanks for the reply eazy. Car has quattro. Fluid is good. Never had problem with it till now. Will it will be hard to have it checked out if the problem only happens once on the 1st take off of the day? Will be taking it to the shop to see what they find anyway.
