2007 A6 3.2L Stop Lamp Switch

At 124K miles my brake light, (stop lamp) switch failed. Purchased a new one at the local Audi dealer, part # 1K2 945 511 RDW.
Trouble was how to remove knee bolster panel under the steering wheel.
There are three 8mm bolts: one behind side cover, near the fuse panel by drivers door, two are underneath near the outside edges - easy to see.
The top edge is held in by friction clips. No need to pull off heater vents panels, as some posts seem to imply. The switch is easy to remove, unplug standard plug, rotate about 45 degrees and pull out. When inserting new switch pay close attention to orientation of switch: one side has a square prong while the other has a rounded prong, and rotate until it clicks.
