2007 A6 MP3 CD changer upgrade help
Hi,
I just recently purchased a CPO 2007 A6 and was reading online that this was the year that Audi decided to incorporate an MP3 CD changer. Unfortunately, when I tried playing an MP3 CD in my car, the MP3s weren't recognized.
**Is this upgrade as simple as an MMI upgrade or replacing the CD changer with one that is MP3 compatable?**
When I spoke with my local Audi dealership, their service department representative said (and I quote) "The Germans didn't care much for MP3s and iPod when they made the 2007 A6s. Your year is the only one that I know of that doesn't have any upgrades available."
I would like to have the capability to play MP3s in my car without having to spend the $1000 on the AMI w/iPod retrofit kit.
Below is the information I was able to gather from my current system.
Version Info taken from MMI
SW: C6-HU 46.1.0.0805
HW: C6-HU 6361D2.0
FC SW: 05071AFC6AB320060
FC PS: 0060FC HW: H02
I can supply the VIN number as well if you think may help.
Any information you could provide me with would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Sounds like your car is produced sometimes in 2006 then. The CD player itself has to be replaced to the new model. It's a fair expensive upgrade. It's better off if you spend a little more to get the AMI installed in your car (there is instruction up here or with the AMI so that you can DYI, or else, just get the new CD player)

Thank you for you quick reply.
Yes, I believe my car was manufactured in late 2006 but it's registered as a 2007. Do you happen to know the model number of the changer or where I can find one. If not, I can figure it out.
Thanks again,
Chris

I found the CD changer. Thanks for the heads up. The cheapest I was able to find it for was $780. I guess I'm just going to cough up the cash and perform the AMI retrofit.
Thanks again for you help.

Search for the DIY thread up here. I know Ebay sell the AMI retrofit kit with manual and everything. The price is great, very easy to do it. My local dealer tried to charge me 1400. That's just way to much for something that would take 1hr of my time.
