Default 2008 Audi A6 Cylinder Misfire/EPC Light

Hey guys,

I was driving about 90 mph on 9/5/16 and my EPC, ESP and flashing check engine light all came on, so I pulled to the side of the e-way, turned the car off, and waited 15 mins or so. After turning the ignition to position two, all lights were off, so I started the car and drove home (about 4 miles), no issues.

Here are the faults from that day:

When the car was started the next morning (9/6) it was an extremely rough idle and the same lights came on again. Here are the faults for that day:

After reading a ton of forums, the crankshaft position sensor sounded like a reasonable suspect. After changing it, I started the engine again (9/9) and the following faults appeared:

All the faults above were stored on the computer, as I did not have access to VCDS until 9/15/16. After reading the faults, I performed resistance checks on all coils and coil harnesses, replaced all spark plugs, and cleared all DTC's. I then started the engine and again read the following faults:

New to the forum, however, I have done extensive research through other forums and have found a lot of similar info. Not trying to repost the same information, but I don't know an alternative. I also have ran into the typical vacuum line failure near the head that runs to the evap canister and have replaced it.

Any suggestions or input would be awesome! Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum, your issue sounds like it could be one of a few things ranging from hpfp to injectors... Take a look at this thread and you might be able to apply it to what your experiencing:

Thanks for the input raj99! It looks like they mostly had connection issues on the throttle body and/or intake manifolds. I will attempt to troubleshoot more this evening by looking for loose/broken connections and report my findings. Could this possibly be caused by a stuck valve? I am considering a Seafoam cleaning, but am not sure if this is a mechanical issue or an electrical one, but I am leaning towards electrical.

Also, any reason for the ABS to throw a fault? Or is it unrelated?

Did you read the hpfp failure which caused all 3 issues? Btw seafoam won't ever fix an issue, just more preventive maintenance, if anything.

I did not see hpfp failure that you are referring to. Also, after troubleshooting today I have concluded that Seafoam will not help me, as you have stated.

Today after work, I stopped at the Audi dealer to pick up some things and I brought my issue up to a couple of the service technicians. They recommended that after swapping coils and finding no change, the fuel injectors were the next place to look. I began by swapping the ignition coils to see if the misfire would follow...no luck. After I had ran the engine for a few minutes, I moved on to pulling my cylinder 4 spark plug (brand new), and I found that the plug was covered in gas and it definitely had never fired. I then disconnected all coil packs from their harnesses and removed an additional spark plug to use as my control (clearly had burned correctly). I had my brother crank the engine over and noticed that cylinder 4 pushed out a visible mist of fuel, where cylinder 5 did not. I tested it once more to be certain and the outcome was the same. This has led me to the conclusion that my fuel injector is stuck in the open position at cylinder 4 and is flooding the cylinder with fuel.

Before I take the plunge and replace/clean/swap the fuel injectors, could someone please attempt to punch holes in my theory or tell me why I am wrong? Or if there is additional testing that can be conducted?

All input is welcomed and appreciated!!

Default Timing

Hi L&G

I’ve been looking up the whole internet for Audi A6 C6 3.2L Quattro 2006 graphics or photos of engine to see where the timing mark is that pulley notch needs to be aligned? On my engine I have found the notch, but can’t find timing mark arrow or any sign where I would be aligning the notch on the pulley.

Pics would be highly appreciated,

Thanks in advance.
