If the mechanic says that there was water in the engine does that mean that the engine is totally out of commission? Can that engine be repaired by reboring the cylinders?

Or, do I need to purchase a used engine and replace it with what's in the car right now?

Thanks for your advice and help. I don't think that anyone locally where I live is giving me the most efficient answer and I like the car.

Is it worth fixing? And if so... how?

It is hard to understand from your post what is the problem. Do you have coolant leaking into cylinders? do you have rusted cylinder because of the water condensation? Did the car suck in water though the intake (e.g. hydrolocking) and your valves are bent?

I had the same car and liked it a lot. So I would try to fix it. But replacing engine very expancive. Replacing heads also not cheap.
