Hey all!
A6, 2006; 4.2l V8 tfsi, 155 000 miles.
Torque converter turbine is failing (wont lock), and I'm thinking of replacing it in a shop. The motor needs to come off in order to get to the TC, so since the car is quite old, I'm wondering what else should I get replaced at the same time if I decide to replace the TC? Thermostat? Some seals? Timing chain parts? The transmission fluid has never been changed, I'm thinking I should do it now even if it might be a bit risky. The transmission works well though.
Cheers.

Based on my experience I would save my money and spend that money toward a new car. With that said, if you are determined to hold onto the car, I replaced the timing chains and supporting hardware at the same time I replaced the torque converter.

Thats true, its all depends on how much you like the car and how much you are willing to spend.
For an example, I love mine, its unreliable piece of #hit, but i love it. My 06 3.2 is worth around 4-5k (carmax offered $500 for it and carvana refused to buy it at all
)))
So i would definitely replace rear main seal, timing tensioners, chains and guides, if these never were done. Maybe engine mounts.
get a quote for these jobs and decide if you really want to repair it at all, or just sell it with broken TC for someone who wants project car and get something newer

I also would replace the main seal on the engine - avoid oil leans and potentially vacuum leaks.
