Widening audience since targeting 4.2 owners only had no feedback. Interested in feedback from owners who made the move up. Any regrets? Any major headaches with the S6? Please be clear on year/options if you do have complaints.....thanks

Not sure I am helping you as I did not come up from any A6 but I do own a Touareg with the 4.2 V8 and I just bought a used 2008 S6.
Based on your garage of previously owned vehicle you like a bit of power.
As I had previously noted in another thread IMHO the V8 is almost as fast from 0 to 30 mph as the V10 but it is from 30 mph to 100 mph where the V10 really separates from V8. This is just based on seat of the pants comparison between my Touareg vs. the S6.
The sound of the V10 is no comparison to the V8. It is the best sounding car I have owned.
If I was in your position I would be very tempted to move to the new S6 because of the vast improvements in electronics and interior design but I'm not liking the fact it come with a V8 vs. a V10.
I understand the fact the new V8 is just as fast if not faster than the old V10 and has way better milage.
BUT I feel it is the V10 that really MAKES the S6 unique. The S6 is sold in such limited numbers and at that price point Audi should realize that there are still plenty of us that don't really give a sh*t about the milage.

Don't know how much I can help you here. I never owned an A6 but did have an A4 3.0 for a while. I believe the move to the S6 was one of the best moves I have made in a long time, that and the price I paid was great. Would I buy another A4 most likely not as I am not a fan of the 2.0 and once you have an S6 there's no going back.
I am very pleased with my S6 and to date I don't have any complaints. I would buy another without thinking twice about it.

Hi There,
Sorry I didn't respond to your 4.2L thread. I moved from a 2006 A6 4.2L S-Line to a 2007 S6.
Let me back up even further... I moved from a 2008 BMW 550i to the 2006 A6. Boy was I disappointed. The A6 was BORING to drive compared to the 550i Sport. I really missed the 550i. Then I traded the A6 4.2L in for the S6 and let me just say - WHOA!!! The S6 is COMPLETELY different from the A6. I actually enjoy driving again. The sound of the exhaust makes me smile every time I turn the car on.
The seats are a huge upgrade, the exhaust an enormous upgrade, the handling - even better than the 550i Sport. Its amazing to me how much different the two cars are.
I would 100% recommend the S6. I had some buddies come over last weekend and they all wanted to ride in the V10. They were all drooling. One buddy even texted me later in week about how awesome the car was! You don't get that in an A6...
I haven't had any issues so far other than my tail light, which was an easy fix.
Hope this helps.

Tama2112, not to off topic but, curious. Was the 4.2 not on par with the 550i even in sport mode and/or with manual shifting? Did you have paddle shifters? I'm guessing it's just the overall setup and 'feeling' of the car....thx for the feedback

2) the handling was nowhere near the same. Even with the quadradrive, it just didn't hug the corners like the 550i. Not to mention that the tires on the 550i are significantly wider than the 4.2L. The S6 handles even better than the 550i.
Interestingly, the rear tires on the 550i are wider than the rear tires on the S6, but the front tires are narrower. The 550i has 245/275 and the S6 has 265/265.

went from 98 a6 2.8, totalled that one, went to a 06 lexus gs300 for ayear then back to audi, s6 2008. Cant really compare any of the three, the first audi was very comfortable but lacked power. Bit expensive to fix and maintain but still worth it. Lexus was prob the best car I ever owned, didnt have to put a dollar into it for the year I owned it but was still lacking power. S6 is a monster but in the first 6 months I owned it I remembered all the problem the first audi gave me. Intake manifold was shot, had to be replaced (2000$), shifting problems, carbon build up issue (lose up to 50hp every 40000km or so, needs to be cleaned regularly). Otherwise a very fun and comfortable car to drive. Doesnt really feel all that fast because its a 4 door, automatic and 4 wheel drive, but never the less still very exciting. Test drove a 07 e63 amg and wish I would of bought it instead for the extra power (reliability prob the same) but they are just too flashy. Audi's are a lot more discreet and thats what I wanted.
