I have owned 2 Audis A6. My current 2005 A6 model has the Immobilizer and I am living a nightmare right now. I got up to go to work and I go out to my car. I turn the key and nothing except the dash, the radio and the computer console work. No ignition, no brakes, no transmission. I don't here any clicks from the solenoid / starter. I can check the computer console and it says I have plenty of battery (which I think I do). It's just the key does absolutely nothing.
I call 2 different dealers. The first dealer says I have to bring it in first. The second dealer thinks its the key fob access module. I tried jumping it just in case its the battery and it only charges the battery up higher to 70% charged. I call the 2nd dealer back about being able to transport with the brake and the tranny in park. He gave me a long explanation of how to disengage the transmission with thru the ash-tray. The brake cannot be disengaged but he says no problem with a flat-bed tow.
This is a nightmare. How can this happen? Its like I've been struck by lighting. I still can't get the tranny disengaged.
HELP!!!!
Help? How do I disengage the

I have tried both keys now and neither works.
I don't if this has anything to do with it but the inside garage door opener quit working about the same time as my car. Completely bizarre.
I guess I have to get it towed. The dealer gave me some caca-mamy procedure for disengaging the tranny but it involves some cable being pulled from the ash-tray. I couldn't see any cable.
This is crazy that I have to have a dealer-rep'd tow to move the freaking car.

Had the same issue with mine. Its your steering column. There is a sensor that goes out in there that works the steering lock and it goes bad. You'll need a whole new column. You are going to need to have them put the car on roller dollies bc it thinks someone is stealing it and will be ugly to hop it off the flat bed. Sorry dude
mine cost $985 for the part and 5 hrs worth of labor
