ever since I got this car last year, I had a feeling my AC is weak. ALlways blowing hard but taking hard time cooling down the cabin.
Then just by fluke I put my hand on passenger side vents, and noticed its blowing much warmer air then drivers side. But what happened couple days ago that my AC fans suddenly just slowed down and started cooling on both sides.... few minutes after fans went higher again, and it started bvvlowing warmer on passenger side...
is this heat exchanger, or something else? Or two problems?
heat exchanger is expensive, and I dont know if those cheaper ones from rockauto would do th ejob just as fine? fcp euro and ecs have them for like $500 which is nuts.
any info from someone who actually had these repalced, and if its possible to do at home or mechanic is mandatory?
greatly appreciate any advice.

I replaced mine with an Audi genuine one from ECS Tuning. $500, that's right. It is not complicated. I posted a few pictures taken during the replacement with a few instructions here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-.../#post24811520
But you can get away by cleaning the pistons inside. Read the thread carefully.

That would be the best thing to try first. Be cautious with the housings Torx screws. They break easily. I broke a screw which led me to eventually replace the whole unit. When installing the housings back, refrain from torquing them screws too much. Good luck!
