Advanced Key not so smart--or my son isn't

My son just bought a 2006 Avant. One major atraction was the Advance Key because my daughter-in-law always has to rummage through the bottom of her purse for the car key. With this new key she merely has to have it in her possession to open the car door and to start the car.
I asked him how you lock the car and he said you have to use the key.
Can that be correct!? It defeats the whole purpose of the Advanced Key. He is really ticked off. The salesman made a big deal about it before the car was bought but he never said anything about locking the car door.

Just push to button under the door handles either inside or outside the car. Either will do the trick.

I will pass on the information to my son. I am sure he'll be as embarrassed as I am.
Of course I would like to believe that if I had the car I would have figured it out because I am old enough to remember that we could lock car doors that way years ago. I think they stopped designing cars that way because it was easy to lock the car keys inside, even with the engine running.
But if the Audi works as has been described, it seems that this method allows keys to be locked inside the car. So if you keep the key in your pocket be sure to keep it there and take your purse with you.

both the salesman and general manager could not figure it out and told my daughter-in-law that the procedure only works with the A8 but not the A6.
Thanks to all of you. Now my son thinks I am a genius--finally.

Salesmen and service 'professionals' in my local dealers didn't know what MMI was, even when I spelt out "multi media interface" to them. Unbelievable!

you would think that people who sell and service the car would read it as well. Sure looks better for the boss to see you reading an Audi publication than a newspaper when you aren't busy. I'd bet that most of the folks on this forum would do that and not just to impress the boss. Pity there aren't more car buffs selling cars.
