Ok, this is a little disturbing. The other day, there was another silver A6 parked a few spots away from ours at work. My wife accidentally walked up to the wrong one, and opened the trunk. She had the advanced key in her pocket. She didn't push the trunk button on the key; she just walked up, lifted the trunk handle/button and it opened. It's possible the other people hadn't latched their trunk, but it seems unlikely and she says she heard their trunk unlock when she touched it. She didn't try the door or ignition for obvious reasons -- as soon as she realized she had the wrong car, she closed the trunk and walked away.
WTF? Are there really few enough unique codes for these keys that we'd be able to walk up to another A6 and use our key? If so, I'm sure others can do the same to our car, which is troubling.
Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it was just a freak thing???

still running and nobody inside, parked in a restaurant parking lot. There were no one in the parking lot other than me. The restaurant is upstairs in a two-story building. The ground floor is solely for parking. I guess the owner was either to hungry to fix his/her advanced-key eninge shut-off problem, or simply forgot to hit the switch to shut off the engine.
