I brought my 2006 A6 in for a tire pressure monitoring system malfunction message that I received after I put on my summer wheels which are OEM wheels and sensors. I made repeated attempts to reset the system by selecting "change wheels" option in MMI,still received the malfunction message. I had the same problem last summer (no amp at that time)when I put the wheels on that was fixed with a "reset & recalibration" by the same dealer. This year I was told all the sensors were changed, did not fix problem so my old sensors were put back in.Next, the TPMS module was changed, same problem my old part was put back. After 11 hours of labor they came to the conclusion that my aftermarket amplifier was causing "Frequency Interference" and since it was an outside cause I'm responsible for the labor. Could an aftermarket amplifier cause this problem?

11 hours for something that should take 4. Well, I guess it's what the 'book' says.
If you have a better amp (which I assume you would in an A6) and it was installed properly, it shouldn't interfere with the tire monitoring system. But a quick way to tell would be - pull the power plug on the amp and see if your problems go away. Of course the dealer would never try that easy fix. NO - after all, it's after market and they wouldn't be able to run up 11 hours on you. If it is Amp, call the Amp company and complain - Maybe you got an improperly shielded unit.

It will be difficult to argue the point that they don't know what is causing the malfunction. It is because "the amplifier" exists that they are using this as an excuse. Disable and or remove the amp then return it to the dealer. If they do find the source of the issue, they may be able to refund some if not all of your money. Otherwise try and diagnose it yourself.

I was told that it can't "initialize" when the amp is connected. And when I want to change wheels I need to unplug the amp so the new wheels could be recognized, then I could plug it back in. They said that they had to disconnect it to get it to "set up". It was still connected when I picked it up. It all sounds like bull**** to me. I think they just reset it or did whatever they did last summer to get it to work.It worked all last summer with no problems and all winter with my winter wheels.Of course that had no record of what they did last year, and my invoice just says set tire pressure and test drive.
