Default "Air Bag" light on dash

Hey Guys,

Any tips or tricks to get rid of the "Air Bag" light on the dash?

I start the car, it goes off, and then about 10 seconds, the "Air Bag" light comes on and stays on...

This started right after I got an oil change done - could my mechanic have bumped or loosened a wire or connection?

Thanks,

I am betting the sensor in the back seat has gone bad. It is a known problem in our cars. I have had mine replaced 4 or 5 times.

Interesting...I just had my center rear seatbelt unit replaced for the same reason (tech said it was faulty seatbelt pretensioner). I got the car back and a little over a week later, the light's back on...taking it back to dealer tomorrow for that and other reasons:

KevinGary - From your TSB link, I'm guessing this might apply:

It's from the rear center seat belt. They replaced mine too and it keeps coming back on whenever someone sits in the back middle, which isn't very often. I just reset it with one of these... http://www.dealextreme.com/p/u600-2-...r-1-6f22-35186

Sometimes a simple clearing of the code will remedy the issue. I had my airbag light on and the code was for a faulty sensor... My mechanic cleared the code and it hasn't been back since. The sensor must have had a momentary glitch.

Thanks...I mentioned this to the dealer who's keeping it another day to trouble shoot this and and an oil consumption issue. My 8 year old has recently taken to sitting in the rear middle seat when his big sister's not in back with him...definitely could be a faulty sensor of some sort since the dealer just replaced the seat belt assembly/pretensioner 2 weeks ago after I got the first airbag warning light.

In the meantime I'm enjoying a loaner Q5...

I've had the air bag light showing up for a few years. Only on real cold days originally. The VAG showed it was the driver's airbag but was "intermittent" and I would clear and it would go away. A few months ago it popped up permanently and would not stay off. I figured since it was originally intermittent it might just be a bad contact. Today I took the covers off the column and re-seated all the connections I could find. Another VAG and cleared the old codes and the light is gone. I figured I'd post this as I've read postings about the intermittent code but never a post of the fix.

Dealer ended up calling Audi technical support after I mentioned a few of the comments I'd read here previously about others having the same issue with the center rear seat triggering the air bag light - apparently issue was not the seatbelt/pretensioner system that they replaced. I spoke to the SA briefly on Fri. and they said they were ordering another part (a connector of some sort I believe)...hopefully will have it back on Mon and will post more details then.

Exact same scenario with my car. I've just learned to ignore it over the last 4 months.

Got my car back today. This time around, after consulting with Audi tech support, they replaced the wiring harness (4F1-971-259) and grommet (4BO-886-373-01C) and believe they have it fixed. My 8 yr old sat in the rear center seat on the drive home tonite...so far so good (no air bag light)...keeping my fingers crossed!
