2008 A6 4.2 Quattro, air bag light came on, hooked up vagcom and cleared it, came right back so there’s most likely a problem. Could be bad sensor or wire so I’m planning on digging into it. Want to get a replacement sensor, try that first and if no luck I’ll start chasing wires. However, I’m not exactly sure where the sensor is located or which one I need. Audi parts websites with schematics show a couple different sensors and I want to avoid ordering the wrong one. Depending on how much I gotta tear into it I’m looking to be prepared so it’s hopefully a one time job, no tear down and end up SOL, put it back and take apart again. Took a pic of the vagcom screen and wondering if anyone can help me with the location of this sensor or possible part number. Don’t know what info is needed, but I’m hoping to go in full-assed on it. Thanks! Fault code description

Reason: More info
Brando, that's telling you it's a dead sensor on the passenger side of the vehicle. These sensors get cooked over time and fail routinely. I had both the left and right side fail on our 2006 wagon within 1 year of each other. Replacement is straightforward with removal of the connector and a TORX bolt holding it in place. They sit on each side of the radiator; you might have to remove the air intake duct work to see/access the one of the passenger side. Not sure what the access is like with a 4.2L engine.
The price from the dealership had grown outlandish, maybe $150. I ended up taking a chance on an eBay part and it was fine. Cost was $34, part number for our car was: 4L0 959 651
I found I had to clear the error several times with VCDS to make the MIL go away after the replacement sensor was fitted.
@uberwgn thanks, that helps a lot, at least I know where to start digging for the sensor location. Of all the cars I’ve owned over the years, nothing throws heat like this one. All that engine and components crammed into that little space with all the covers minimizing airflow, a sensor getting cooked is not surprising. I intended on your route, used sensors all over eBay, they’ll be fine. I was using the schematics to acquire part numbers mainly. Car is 15 years old and still runs like a top, but I’m trying to not stick too much money into it anymore. Got a creaky window regulator to fix, but that light on the dash has been bugging my OCD. Thanks for all the info, you’re a great help!
Brando, my pleasure. I was at the same place with our 2006 last year. It was starting to need way too much stuff regardless how much I liked the car. I knew we were getting to the point of no return.
Good luck with your repair. It's very simple once you have a replacement sensor in hand.
@UbrWgn you eased my mind, I’m just glad it’s right by the radiator, I was afraid I’d be dismantling a good chunk of the car like most repairs. I replaced a leaky radiator last summer, too bad the light came on months after I had the whole front end off for that. Plugged the number you provided in on eBay and should have a sensor soon for $35. Thanks again.
Got a sensor, found it right under the elbow for the airbox, swapped it out, cleared codes and no more air bag light. I’ll call it fixed, thanks for the advice, it was perfect.
