Default Air suspension problems

Car seems to be 'sinking', not always though.
I am familiar with the Allroad (C5) air suspension.
Is the 2006 A6 4.2 similar? Air bags plus shocks, 4 level sensors, compressor, tank, valve block?

Where to start with troubleshooting (have full VAGcom)?
What components are suspect and how best to identify the source the of the problem?

Do you have a Bentley Repair Manual? That would give you all of the dteails of teh air suspension system BTW, no problems so far w/ the air suspension on my '06 A6 Avant.

I haven't seen much at all about air suspension on A6's [and ours doesn't have it] so I think it's not that common in the US.

May want to look at the D3 forum.
Presumably the suspension is pretty similar and many over there have had same problem.

Agreed on the Bentley.

VCDS is likely showing 'threshold exceeded', 'temperature exceeded' or something like that.

My 2 cent...

I have 2 Bentley, but have not checked if C6 A6 is also covered (I have B5 A4 and C5 A6 cars and corresponding Bentley CDs).

Have you checked for fault codes with VCDS?

When you say sinking, do you mean while the engine is off, or while in operation?

The A6 has an air suspension, more like air dampers. The only A6 that don't are the ones with sport suspension, meaning original Sline.

If you could access the "Comfort","Dynamic","Auto","Sports" modes from your MMI then you have air suspension.

Some people remove there air suspension for the sport suspension.

vtraudt, check the fitting and lines to the dampers. If the car is sinking in one direction then check those first. The air suspension should have something similar as evap system to smoke the system for leaks(the easier way is soapy water).

Here a link to what the dampers look like http://genuineaudiparts.com/parts/20...iagram=1352342

The C6 platform does have air suspension. The air springs are now totally redesigned to more of a self contained unit rather than the old less efficient bladders on the C5 platform. The pump has also been redesigned and significantly the pump and valve control block have all been moved forward behind the fron bumper around by the front right hand wheel well. The logic seems to still be quite similar with my Allroad behaving pretty much as set out in the Bentley guides for the old C5.
If it is lowering on one side i suspect you have a damaged air spring. They are expensive from Audi but good alternatives can be sourced from Germany. MAKE SURE you get it code read, my Audi had a faulty relay (there is a modification you should get) which kept the pump running and finally made it fail. Mine began dropping for a little while before the pump finally imploded as the air seals in the pump began to degrade and fail - BIG MONEY repairs then followed
