Anyone strongly consider the 530xi wagon or an SUV before going with the A6 Avant?

drove SUVs: BMW X3+X5; Porche Cayanne; Infiniti FX; Mercedes ML500; Lexus and some others.
I liked the new Mercedes ML and the BMW X5 a lot, but at the end of the day, for me, they are trucks that handle really well - almost as well as a sports sedan/wagon but not quite and more air noise on the highway - so I decided to get a sports wagon.
Checked out the Mercedes E500 all wheel and the R500 all wheel. The R was too big for what I need and the E while very responsive felt heavy. Also I don't love the looks and dislike the Mercedes COMMAND user interface (my wife has a C320 all wheel) - and there are issues with Mercedes quality lately (e.g. my wifes C320).
So it came down to the BMW530xi and the A6 Avant. Both are wonderful autobmobiles. The negatives for me on the BMW were: idrive is user interface hell; spartan interior; and somewhat harsh suspension for Boston roads. So I went with the A6 Avant -- I like the MMI much better - I love the interior (and it felt a little more spacious) -- and I got air suspension which gives me the option of somewhat plush for Boston and tighter for the country roads.
Good luck!
PS: This is wahtI hope to get in April (if the boat doesn't sink):

Absolutely. I was on the list for the RX400h forever and passed once you could actually see one and go over the specs. Looked at the redesigned Mercedes SUV- awesome ride but ugly price tag and real concerns about Mercedes quality. The 530xi was almost there but just not an Audi interior finish and tough to understand the $5K price differential. I just went to the Chicago Auto show and saw them all again and I love my 06 A6 Avant more than ever. It's an awesome car.
