Anyone upgrade from v6 brakes to v8 brakes?
I am thinking of upgrading the front brakes on my 2007 A6 avant 3.2l to those found on the v8 sedan. Has anyone done this b4? Any idea whats involved?

Is there a difference besides a small increase in disc diameter?
..if that's the only difference, I can't imagine the difference in performance would be that great - a change to more aggressive brake pads designed for higher operating temps would be just as effective.
If the calipers are bigger, that's probably worth looking into - but at that point, why not go for the S6 brakes?

Re: Is there a difference besides a small increase in disc diameter?
any info on the S6 brakes? I am only aware that v8 have larger diameter rotors. what i am trying to do is find a solution to the 20k rotor/pad intervals.

A good reason - I believe the calipers and pads for the V6 and V8 are the same...
..so I don't think that will change the rate of wear.
I just started looking at brake options myself, so if I find anything relevant I'll post it here..

347mm vs 321mm for fronts & 330mm vs 302mm for rears.
For complete conversion I think u'll need discs+pads+calipers+carriers. The killer is the rear caliper as it has the electric parking brake as well. It could be done as European-spec 3.2 w/S-Line+ package have the 4.2 brakes, but on balance I doubt u'll gain a lot as there'll be an increase in unsprung weight.

That's the thing I was wondering - are the calipers different? Or is it just the carrier?
I can't seem to get an answer on that. In theory, the 4.2 A6 should get the same brakes as the S4, given the speed and weight.

The calipers are different comparing the 4.2 & 3.2, as the part numbers aren't the same.
I don't think the S4 uses the same brakes as the A6 4.2. The brakes on the 4.2 is the same in design & construction as the 3.2, only bigger.
