I got fluid, filter and the gasket from koperformance.com for $200. $600 sounds to high., also my Indy shop changed the fluid for $100. To diy you need to level your car on the lift and you need vag computer reader.
So may be you can do it in independent shop as well.

Depending on which fluid you choose to go with we have service kits that include the filter and gasket from 200 - 500. Obviously kits utilizing Genuine VW/Audi fluid are going to be more expensive.

Finally changed my tranny fluid, wow what a difference! The old stuff was smelly and very dark coming out. I did not change the filter nor did I drop the pan and only changed about 4 liters. When I drove the car it shifted smoother and had a more instant throttle response. Seeing as how ugly the old fluid was I'll do it again in 20k, and maybe every 20k till the car dies.

I would change the filter around 100k. Drain and fills are what i recommend for people after a filter service in 6 months to a year if the fluid looks awful enough.

I have 69k miles on my 2005 with no previous ATF changes and no software updates. Shifting is ok but there is a slight shudder when downshifting from 2-1 or 3-2 coming to a stop. Do you recommend just a drain and fill at this point with the SP or should I do a filter change as well, and then follow up with drain and fills further down the road?
