Audi A6 Alignment

Audi A6 Alignment
Have the 2005 A6 in the shop for some last minute warranty work (1K left before it pumpkins). Service Tech suggested that it needs an alignment and they can gladly do the 4-wheel alignment for $149! My local tire shop normally does it for about a third of that. When I responded to the tech that I would probably do the alignment elsewhere, he stated that only Audi can do the alignment properly.
Just smoke and mirrors or does Audi do something differently?

Is the quote from the dealer? If it is, I think it's very reasonable for a 4-wheel alignment. Recently I had to help my mom get an alignment on her Lexus. A Lexus dealer quoted $350. I had the local shop do it for about $100.
To tell you the truth, I wouldn't spend any less than $100. I only trust shops with a state of the art alignement rack with laser guide system to accurately measure caster, camber and toe in/out. I'm not sure shops that charge $50 has that kind of an equipment. As for only Audi techs can properly perform alignments, I'd say mostly smokes and mirrors unless your front sub frame is completely out of whack. I think our front sub frame can be slightly adjusted for camber alignment and a local shop tech might not know how to correctly adjsut it. For $150, I'd say get it done at the dealer.

First of all 'Only Audi can do the alignment properly' is pure BS.
Any Alignment shop with the proper tools and equipment can do so.
I have tried Pepboys and they told me that they did not have the proper tools for the alignment.
Also $149 does not seem that bad at the dealership since even local shops usually seem to charge lower $100s.
