I used to own a 04' 4.2 V8 S4 in which I performed the very popular "piggie pipes" modification (gutting) of the pre-cats of the exhaust system. Definetly improved top end pulling power, and maybe slight increase in MPG. CEL's were avoided by using 02 spacers on the positions after the pre-cat. I tentively believe the s4 4.2 and the a6 4.2 may share similar/if not exactly the same downpipes.

I just bought an 06 4.2 A6, and am curious if there is infact a reason why this is not a popular modification among the a6 crowd. I see no posts about it at all on this forum. I havent had the chance yet to inspect the underbody on the car, but suspect maybe it is due to the fact that it is more difficult to perform on the a6 body. Anyone with insight as to this would be appreciated.
