On a sporadic basis, my audio system will only emit loud screeching - whether it's on FM, Sirius or CD. Turning the system on and off a few times corrects the problem, although one time it lasted for two days. As always, it's fine by the time I get to the dealership and the computer diagnostics show it's operating to specifications.

Any ideas?

I just had this happen. First time in several years of ownership. I had just updated the MMI from version 4 to version 6. What version do you have?
