Hi All,

I'm have a battery drain problem that is driving me nuts. I have a VAG-COM but am a novice when it comes to using it. Any help will be highly appreciated.

So the previous owner of my 06 A6 has put in a Duralast battery which died a few weeks after I bought the car. I replaced the battery a couple weeks ago with a OEM Audi battery and properly coded it.

When I come into the car after letting it sit for about 4-5 hours I get a Battery low message. This is what I have tried so far and here is my VAG-COM log.

1. Replaced battery
2. Recoded Control Head
3. Cleared all codes
4. Updated MMI to latest version therefore the TSB fix wont work.

Note:
1. My driver door key sensor does not work and I have to open the door handle twice in order for it to open. Could this be the cause of it?

2. Battery Regular throws a few codes, I have no idea what they mean

3. How would I fix -01964 - Control Module for Seat & Steering Column Memory (J136) - I do not have an electrical steering column and checked the coding.

I would go to address 61 and read the complete current flow history then go from there. Also check to see any module is still awake 20 minutes after shut down.

Is this happening in your garage overnight? Do you leave the car unlocked while in garage? That may be the problem because the car does not shut down all modules while left unlocked.

what year is it,also if u get wax build up on button it will not work,
I know there is a tsb on the batt its just a software up date,

I have tried leaving the car unlocked and locked. The battery drains regardless.

The car is a 2006. I have the latest MMI update which covers the TSB. I haven't heard of the wax build up but the handle is clear of wax from what I can see. I'll take the door handle trim off and see what I can find underneath.

I think the door handle sensor can cause a draw issue, but if your battery is going low on 4-5 hours, you have a serious draw going on. You need to have check for the draw with a amp clamp on the negative cable and/or have the dealer pull the battery draw history from the 61 BEM module to see what is staying on. It can be several items in the MMI, as that system alone draws 7 amps when activated. It looks like a setting or configuration of the 07 module needs to be corrected. This can happen if it was updated, but never configured correctly afterwards for the vehicle options.

Update:

I took apart the door with window frame to find out that the door handle sensor was not connected. Seems to have gotten loose on its own? That takes care of the door handle sensor issue.

After leaving the car for about 4 hours I still seem to have a battery drain problem.

I recoded the MMI control head but still get the seat and steering fault code. I do not have an electric steering column and my seat setting buttons work without a problem. Except I get the Key not programmed or recorded error message in the MMI drivers seat setting.

Any other ideas?

With the MMI, its not a coding issue, but an adaptation channel setting. Most of that is done with the factory software on a VAS tester, and unless someone has the channels and values for that channel according to you vehicle specs, it will be hard to get that corrected with VAG-COM. As for the draw, you will also have to determine which system or circuit is drawing current, which means you need an amp probe connected the battery circuit while unplugging fuses or connector for components.
