See my original response to your thread...you have a parasitic electrical draw, which you need to discover and eliminate. Getting a new battery will not help your situation, if you haven't resolved the issue with the power draw.

Whether that means I'll get a shorter life out of it or not, is too soon to tell. It'll probably outlast the car itself, with 165K miles on it.
Wow. Good for you. Glad it is working out for you.

It seems that this battery issue has many many facets to it and there is no hard and fast answer for what works and doesn't work. Very weird.

Thanks.

Thanks raj99. I saw it. I am taking that into account. Weird thing is that it's been a few days and the car is not being driven and I go in and check the battery percentage in the MMI and it is holding strong at 100%. If there is a parasitic draw, it is quirky and random. Which would not surprise me. Thanks.

obviously if you do have a parasitic draw it'd be ideal to find it and fix it, in my case wasn't able to locate such a draw, and as i said battery died only in extreme cold weather or if car hadn't been driven for many days, so whether it was a draw or just bad luck with batteries, the AGM seems to have fixed my dead battery issues - maybe cranking the big V10 is a bit more of a strain on the battery than a V6.......anyway, as far as installing the battery, i'm sure O'reilly's or any other auto store recommends professional installation to keep their liability down in case something goes wrong, but for me, just unhooked both terminals on the existing, pop in the new battery and reconnect.......and done! no coding of the battery or anything else - i asked my mechanic to be sure as i said i had read about possibly requiring it, but he couldn't find anything saying so......unless newer models require it? mine's an 08, so maybe not, either way no issues since

Thanks for the info. I’m gonna leave the existing battery for now since I can’t return it. Haven’t had anymore issues. If it dies again I will figure out if I want to go the parasitic draw route or just buy an AGM battery and hope it fixes it.

One question... Did you have the battery recharged when you purchased it or did you just install it and drove off?

In my case, the battery was already charged to some extent. I just dropped it in and drove away without any issues whatsoever.

I purchased a new battery (but it wasn’t AGM) and just installed it at home. It died after 3 weeks and I charged it back up at home and haven’t had any issues in a week so far. I hope It was just a weird one time issue. I wont Hold my breath though. Thanks.

I believe batteries are supposed to be fully charged before first use. It is very likely that it died because you did not do the initial recharge and/or you did not drive long enough to have it charged by the car's alternator. Hopefully this is what happened and you shouldn't have any more issues.
