Default Best way to protect paint when cleaning headlights

So I'm going to try to remove some of the yellowing from my 06 Avant's headlights and was wondering what the best way would be to protect the paint around the lenses. I was thinking of using blue painting tape, but wasn't sure if that would damage the paint upon removal. Anyone ever tried this before?

Ur not talking about latex cheap wall paint here, the paint will not be removed nor damaged.

Btw. 3m kit does the jib very very well. I did mine , big difference..... Use a drill and do not keep it in one place for a long time.... Move it around in circle...
Good luck

I use blue painters tape all the time when I'm detailing my car to keep wax from getting on trim pieces. Works great and doesnt damage the paint at all.
