My A6 is setup with Bilstein HD that have had the rear high speed rebound softened to give excellent control on rythmic freeway bumps. If you discuss this with Bilstein they will revalve a set, if you send them in. Cost is nominal, turnaround 1-2 weeks. I would take advantage of this feature for rough US roads.
The HD are perfectly tuned for the standard A6 sport springs. The Hodgekiss sway bars are quite enough to keep the car under control.
The ride is solid, but really well controlled. This setup will work on any A6. Sort of no brainer GT suspension. Get in the twisties and the car rotates nicely. Rock steady at 85.
